Part 7 TOEIC (Reading comprehen) là phần đọc hiểu được nhiều sĩ tử review “khó nhằn” nhất dưới đề thi TOEIC. Làm sao để chinh phục được phần này? Hãy cùng mình khám phá Chiến thuật làm bài TOEIC nhanh trong đây nhé.

Nội dung chính

Phần 1: Chiến lược đọc nhanh

Ở Part 7, kỹ năng đọc nhanh rất quan trọng; tuy nhiên, việc vừa đọc nhanh để tìm những nội dung trọng tâm được yêu cầu trong câu hỏi, vừa bố trí thời gian một cách hợp lý lại càng quan trọng hơn.

Vậy trước tiên, cô trò mình cùng tìm hiểu phương pháp ĐỌC NHANH như thế nào cho thực sự hiệu quả để vừa vẫn hiểu rõ đoạn văn vừa vẫn trả lời được câu hỏi dưới áp lực thời gian nhé!

Chiến lược 1: Ngắt riêng cụm từ bổ nghĩa ra để đọc

Danh từ chính là linh hồn của một câu. Tuy nhiên nếu chỉ biết Danh từ đơn lẻ như “Football is my favorite sport” thì chắc cô trò mình ai cũng đạt được 990/990 Toeic các em nhỉ ^^ Vì danh từ sẽ xuất hiện rất nhiều dạng (dưới dạng Noun phrase – cụm danh từ) hoặc được bổ nghĩa bởi các cụm giới từ; cụm phân từ hay mệnh đề quan hệ bổ sung danh từ…). Những cụm bổ nghĩa đó sẽ gây nhiều khó khăn cho việc đọc hiểu.

Vì vậy, trong các trường hợp như vậy, chúng ta sẽ nhận biết các yếu tố khác nhau cùng bổ nghĩa cho danh từ, rồi ngắt riêng chúng ra thì các em sẽ đọc hiểu hiệu quả hơn rất nhiều. Ví dụ, thay vì hiểu câu ‘my passion for English’ theo từng từ riêng biệt my/ passion/ for/ English/’, các em nên chia riêng các cụm bổ nghĩa thành my passion/ [for English], các em sẽ có thể nâng cao hiệu quả đọc hiểu NHANH của bản thân.

Nếu theo sau danh từ là cụm từ bắt đầu bằng giới từ, phân từ, to-infinitive, từ quan hệ, các em nên ngắt riêng các cụm từ này ra để đọc.

Cho dù cụm danh từ có thể rất dài nhưng chúng đều có cấu tạo cơ bản như sau:

1. Article or Determiner or Adjective or Possesive

Ví dụ: The demand for water/ a significant increase in stock price/ my passion for English

2. Aritcle or Determiner or Adjective or Possesive + NOUN+ to-Verb

Ví dụ: the decision [to share] English with you was made a long time ago

3. Aritcle or Determiner or Adjective or Possesive + NOUN+ V-ing/Pii

Ví dụ: Our company has release a new marketing campaign [attracting] customer to buy our products.
Our company has release a new marketing campaign [planned] by Mr. Johnson

4. Aritcle or Determiner or Adjective or Possesive + NOUN+ Relative clause (mệnh đề quan hệ)

Ví dụ: I have a boyfriend [who I met 2 years ago].

However, the vast majority of residents remain unconvinced. Officials from the fast food chain could not be reached for comment.

Chiến thuật 2: Xác định mệnh đề danh ngữ dài

Mệnh đề danh ngữ bắt đầu bằng that, if, whether hoặc từ nghi vấn (why, what, how…) đóng vai trò là danh từ trong câu. Thông thường, mệnh đề danh ngữ khá dài nên rất khó để các em có thể đọc chúng thành một “khối” trong câu;

Ví dụ như câu The company has stated that its new merger contract will be signed at the beginning of the month có cấu trúc “chủ ngữ + động từ+ túc từ”, trong đó túc từ là một mệnh dề danh ngữ dài.

Nếu ngắt riêng mệnh đề danh ngữ này ra và phân tích nó như một câu độc lập, các sẽ có thể đọc hiểu toàn bộ câu một cách dễ dàng.

Chiến lược 3: Xác định cấu trúc câu đặc biệt trong tiếng Anh

Trong tiếng Anh sẽ tồn tại những cấu trúc đặc biệt và gây nhiều khó khăn cho các em ví dụ như: cấu trúc đảo ngữ, cấu trúc phân từ…nên các em sẽ gặp khó khăn trong việc đọc hiểu.

Đảo ngữ của câu điều kiện

Điều kiện loại 1:
Should you experience any financial problem/ feel free to contact me.
(= If you experience any financial problem/ feel free to contact me – nếu bạn gặp bất kì khó khăn nào về tài chính, đừng ngại liên lạc với tôi nhé!)

Điều kiện loại 2:
Were I you, I woul work harder
(=If I were you, I would work harder – nếu tôi là bạn, tôi sẽ làm việc chăm chỉ hơn)

Điều kiện loại 3:
= Had they taken my advice, they would have won the contest. (= If they had taken my advice, they would have won the contest) Nếu họ nghe lời khuyên của tôi, họ đã có thể thắng cuộc thi rồi.

Cấu trúc phân từ

Chiến lược 4: Động từ quyết định cấu trúc câu

Động từ có vai trò rất quan trọng và có thể quyết định đến cấu trúc của 1 câu. Các bạn đọc bài dưới đây và để ý câu văn in đậm nhé!

“Authorities are attributing the increase in circulation of fraudulent banknotes to recent advances in forgery techniques”

Cấu trúc động từ: “attribute A to B – cho rằng nguyên nhân của A là B”. Nếu biết được công thức này, các em có thể ngắt câu theo cách sau: “Authorities are attributing/ the increase in circulation of fraudulent banknotes/ to/ recent advances in forgery techniques”

Inform (notify/remind) A of B: thông báo, nhắc nhở A về B

Provide (supply) A with B: cung cấp B cho A

Chiến lược 5: Cách diễn đạt lại cụm từ câu hỏi (Paraphrasing)

Theo mình, đây là chiến lược QUAN TRỌNG NHẬT trong bài thi. Việc xác định “key word” trong câu hỏi và tìm “key word” đó trong bài đọc là không dễ dàng vì bài đọc sẽ không giữ nguyên mà sẽ sử dụng cụm từ khác thay thế nhưng nghĩa vẫn giữ nguyên. Kĩ năng đòi hỏi các em là “paraphrasing”

Có một số cách “paraphrasing”

Thay đổi vị trí hoặc thay đổi từ loại
Internet access -> access to the Internet
Việc truy cập Internet -> truy cập vào Internet

Report any damage to merchandise -> report any damaged merchandise
Cho biết về sự hư hại của sản phẩm  cho biết sản phẩm bị hư hại

Sử dụng từ đồng nghĩa, từ trái nghĩa, cách diễn đạt tương đương

Tiến đến giai đoạn kế tiếp trong sự nghiệp của ông ấy -> phát triển sự nghiệp của ông ấy

PHẦN 2: Một số dạng câu hỏi là THÓI QUEN của đề thi TOEIC

Dạng 1: Câu hỏi tổng quát (Topic question)

Câu hỏi ở Part 7 có thể được chia ra làm 2 loại: Câu hỏi thông tin tổng quát và câu hỏi thông tin cụ thể.
Với câu hỏi thông tin tổng quát, thường đáp án sẽ nằm ở những dòng đầu tiên của đoạn văn hoặc dòng cuối cùng của đoạn văn đầu tiên.
Tuy nhiên, thỉnh thoảng đề thi sẽ bẫy các em nên câu ‘topic sentence’ có thể không nằm ở đầu đoạn, mà ở cuối đoạn nên các em phải đọc hết đoạn văn mới có thể hiểu được mục đích của bài.

Câu hỏi về chủ đề hoặc mục đích

What is the purpose [main idea] of ~?
What is the email about?
Why is this email made/written?

Các bước trả lời:

Vừa tập trung đọc phần đầu của bài đọc, vừa nắm bắt nội dung tổng thể.
Đọc câu hỏi và các lựa chọn trả lòi, tìm lựa chọn có nội dung giống vói nội dung trong bài đọc.
Nếu các em phân vân không tìm được lựa chọn trả lời đúng cho câu hỏi, hãy trả lời hết các câu hỏi khác, rồi quay lại câu hỏi này sau khi đọc hiểu xong toàn bộ bài đọc.

-> đọc lướt thân bài và tập trung vào câu cuối “this is important, so please be here. I look forward to seeing you all on Monday” à nhắc học viên đến trung tâm tham gia một “faculty development program – chương trình phát triển khoa” à đáp án là B – To encourage staff to attend a training day”

Dạng 2: Dạng câu hỏi chi tiết (Specific question)

2.1 What is NOT ~?

Câu hỏi này yêu cầu các em tìm lựa chọn trả lời có nội dung không được đề cập đến trong bài đọc và có thể làm em mất nhiều thời gian vì phải đối chiếu từng lựa chọn trả lời với thông tin tương ứng trong bài đọc.

1.Nếu có thể, các bạn nên trả lời câu hỏi dạng này sau khi trả lời tất cả các câu hỏi khác.
2. Trong khi đọc, hãy lưu ý đến những phần liệt kê thông tin như các ưu điểm của sản phẩm được giới thiệu trong quảng cáo, năng lực được yêu cầu trong quảng cáo tuyển dụng (cách nhận biết là các dấu phẩy liên tiếp nhau; dấu sao; dấu mũi tên…). Tuy nhiên, cũng có trường họp thông tin tương ứng nằm rải rác trong toàn bộ bài đọc.
3. Sử dụng phươnng pháp loại suy; so sánh thông tin tương ứng trong bài đọc với nội dung của lựa chọn trả lời cho sẵn, rồi loại ra những lựa chọn có nội dung được đề cập trong bài đọc cho đến khi còn lại lựa chọn trả lời cuối cùng.

-> key word của câu hỏi là “purchase tickets”. Ta tìm trong đoạn văn những từ, cụm từ giống nghĩa với cụm này. Có thể thấy dấu * cuối cùng có động từ “reserve tickets = purchase tickets”
-> đọc câu này.

-> Phân tích câu: “Then, visit our Web site and complete a reservation form to reserve tickets, or call 1-800-447-3339. You can also purchase tickets at any regional North-Rail train station”

Ta thấy có “call 1-800-447-3339 = B- calling a phone number”; complete a reservation form = D- completing an online form; at North-Rail train station = D- going to a train station”
-> đáp án là A – visiting an office (không xuất hiện trong bài)

2.1. Câu hỏi từ vựng (vocabulary question)

~ is closest in meaning to

Câu hỏi này yêu cầu các em tìm từ đồng nghĩa thích hợp được cho ở các lựa chọn trả lời vói một từ / cụm từ nào đó trong bài đọc.

Các em lưu ý là có nhiều trường hợp các em phải suy luận nghĩa của từ/cụm từ dược hỏi dựa vào ngữ cảnh của bài đọc thì mới có thể tìm ra được lựa chọn trả lời đúng.
1.Tìm nhanh câu tương ứng trong bài đọc.
2.Đọc toàn bộ câu chứa từ/cụm từ được hỏi, đối chiếu với các lựa chọn trả lời để tìm ra lựa chọn đúng nhất.
3.Nếu không tìm ra đáp án đúng thì phải dựa vào ngữ cảnh. Hãy mở rộng phạm vi đọc hiểu theo trình tự “đoạn văn bao hàm câu tương ứng -+ toàn bộ bài dọc”.

-> trong 4 lựa chọn trên có duy nhất từ “A – qualified = eligible – đủ điều kiện để được cái gì”

-> nhiều học viên sẽ có thể chọn đáp án “A” hoặc B hoặc C nếu chỉ dựa vào nghĩa của từ “good” trong từ điển. Tuy nhiên nếu để vào ngữ cảnh của câu thì không hợp lí.
-> đáp án của chúng ta cần 1 tính từ thể hiện tính thời gian “until Sunday” à từ “valid – có hiệu lực” ghép vào câu sẽ hợp lí về nghĩa nhất “Giá của sản phẩm được giảm giá sẽ có hiệu lực cho đến Chủ nhật”

Vậy, cách làm tốt nhất là các em phải dựa vào ngữ cảnh của bài viết để tìm đúng từ vựng mang nghĩa cần tìm phù hợp với ngữ cảnh đó.

2.3 Câu hỏi về năng lực/nhiệm vụ phải làm

What is (NOT) a requirement (responsibility) for?

Cảu hỏi này đòi hỏi các em nhận biết các yêu cầu của công việc (requirements) hoặc trách nhiệm (responsibilities) được giao đã được nêu rõ trong quảng cáo tuyển dụng.

Đọc câu hỏi và tìm ngay thông tin tương ứng trong bài đọc. Các yêu cầu về năng lực đối với người dự tuyển chủ yếu được trình bày trong những câu như “Candidates should have [possess] hoặc trong các mục như Requirements, Qualifications; về chức vụ, các em nên để ý đến các từ như responsibilities, duties,…
Tìm trong số các mục được liệt kê, mục nào giống vói lựa chọn trả lời để tìm ra lựa chọn đúng.
Lưu ý là cách diễn đạt, từ vựng tương ứng trong bài đọc sẽ được thay đổi so với cách diễn đạt, từ vựng trong lựa chọn trả lòi đúng (paraphrasing).
