Bài tập so sánh hơn trong tiếng Anh có đáp án chi tiết

So sánh hơn là một điểm ngữ pháp quan trọng nằm trong cấu trúc so sánh (còn có so sánh nhất, so sánh ngang bằng) của tiếng Anh, mà mọi người dù ở bất kì level cũng cần phải nắm rõ.

Nguyên nhân nằm ở tần suất xuất hiện rất thường xuyên trong giao tiếp ở cuộc sống hằng ngày cũng như trong môi trường học thuật (IELTS, TOEIC,…). Trong bài viết ngày hôm nay, Tự học IELTS sẽ giúp bạn tổng kiến thức về bài tập so sánh hơn (comparison) cũng như một số bài tập để giúp bạn thực hành.

A. Tổng quan về so sánh hơn (Comparison)

1. Định nghĩa so sánh hơn (comparison)

So sánh hai hay nhiều đối tượng với nhau dựa trên một hay một vài tiêu chí và trong đó có một bên nhỉnh hơn thì chúng ta sẽ sử dụng phép so sánh hơn.

Ví dụ:
=> My milkshake is better than yours. (Sữa lắc của tôi ngon hơn của bạn.)
=> We choose Tim because his proposal is more cost-efficient than Jerry’s. (Chúng tôi chọn Tim vì đề xuất của cậu ấy tiết kiệm hơn là của Jerry.)

2. Cấu trúc so sánh hơn

2.1. So sánh hơn với tính từ và trạng từ ngắn

S1 + adj – er + than + S2

VD: He’s younger than me

Lưu ý:

• Những tính từ hoặc trạng từ ngắn là những từ có một âm tiết.
• Nếu tính từ/trạng từ kết thúc bằng phụ âm và trước phụ âm là nguyên âm thì khi thêm “er”, ta nhân đôi phụ âm.

VD: big → bigger, hot → hotter …

Tính từ/trạng từ có 2 âm tiết kết thúc bằng y, et, ow, er, le, ure thì khi thêm “er”, ta chuyển “y” thành “i”. Ngoại trừ: guilty, eager.

VD: happy → happier …

2.2. So sánh hơn với tính từ và trạng từ dài

S + more + adj + than + S2

Lưu ý:

• Tính từ/trạng từ dài là những từ có 2 âm tiết trở lên.
• Các trường hợp bất quy tắc:

Good/ well → Better

Bad/ badly → Worse

Many/ much → More

Little → Less

Far → Farther (về khoảng cách), further (nghĩa rộng ra)

Near → Nearer

Late → Later

Old → Older (về tuổi tác), elder (về cấp bậc hơn là tuổi tác)

Happy → happier

Simple → simpler 

Narrow → narrower

Clever → cleverer

3. Chú ý về so sánh hơn

Phân biệt giữa tính từ ngắn và tính từ dài

• Tính từ ngắn là tính tứ chỉ có một âm tiết. (ví dụ: smart, dumb, fast, fat, slow, thin, thick, long, short, v.v).
• Tính từ dài là tính có từ hai âm tiết trở lên. (ví dụ: stupid, beautiful, difficult, v.v).

Tuy nhiên chúng ta cũng có một vài trường hợp đặc biệt khác:

• Với những tính từ dài có hai âm tiết nhưng tận cùng bằng -er, -le, -ow, -et, ta xem như là một tính từ ngắn. (ví dụ: clever ⇒ cleverer; simple ⇒ simpler; quiet ⇒ quieter).
  
• Với những tính từ ngắn, nếu sau phụ âm là một nguyên âm thì ta gấp đôi phụ âm. (ví dụ: big ⇒ bigger, sad ⇒ sadder).
  
• Với những tính từ và trạng từ có hai âm tiết mà tận cùng bằng -y, ta chuyển -y thành -i rồi thêm đuôi -er hoặc -est. (ví dụ: early ⇒ earlier; dirty ⇒ dirtier).

Tuy nhiên, những trạng từ có hai âm tiết mà tận cùng bằng -ly, ta cần dùng cấu trúc “more” hoặc “most”. (ví dụ: quick ⇒  more quickly; likely ⇒  more likely).
